Global estimated primary aluminium production remained unchanged at 64.33mn mt in 2019, from the year prior according to the production data published on Monday by International Aluminium Institute (IAI). 

 

Production of primary aluminium fell in Africa, South America,  Asia  and West Europe from the prior year. China was the largest producer of primary aluminium in the year with 35.79mn mt. The output in China in 2019, however, fell by 688,000mn mt from the year prior. 

 

Aluminum output went up in GCC, East and Central Europe and North America and the production in Oceania remained unchanged at 1.91mn mt from 2018. 

 

Asia’s primary aluminium production fell to 4.39mn mt from 4.41mn mt in the year prior. The production in West Europe fell by 284,000mt to 3.44mn mt, from the prior-year period. Production in West Africa fell by 284,000 mt to 1.64mn mt in 2019 from 2018.

 

In GCC, the production went up by 313,000mt to 5.64mn mt. East and Central Europe too recorded increased production by 108,000mt to 4.15mn mt.  In North America, output rose by 35,000mt at 3.8mn mt.
