Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Rastriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) or Vizag Steel rolled out structural angle of size 50x50x6 from its new structural mill. The mill has an annual capacity of 700,000mt.

 

RINL officials told Davis Index that although this structural mill is dedicated to produce large sections, they can produce smaller sections with some modification to the mill. They recently rolled out smaller section of size 65×65 with trial operations being carried out successfully. Smaller sections for used for fabrication.

 

An RINL official said that the company is getting enquiries for products of this size from the market and are capable of meeting the demand. He added that demand for steel was healthy in August, especially in the first half, and is expected to improve further. 

The company is operating two blast furnaces in full scale capacity at around 13,500-14,000mt of hot metal per day. Average production capacity of each blast furnaces is around 7,000mt hot metal per day. Its third blast furnace is still shut and a call to restart will be taken depending on the market conditions.

 

RINL produces long products and caters to the construction, manufacturing and automobile sectors. RINL has an installed capacity to produce 7.3mn mt steel per annum.
