Vedanta sharpens focus on ramping up production at Gamsberg mine, in South Africa with a target of producing 120,000-130,000mt in this fiscal. This ramp-up is in line with the company’s strategy to become the world’s largest low-cost zinc-lead producer by 2022.

Gamsberg’s Phase 2 and 3 expansion is expected to ultimately produce 600,000mt/yr of zinc-in-concentrate.

 

The Gambsberg mine produced 78,000mt and the company believes that they can ramp up against the original guidance of 140,000mt and has built 1mn mt stockpile in December quarter.

 

Vedanta has revised guidance at Gamsberg between 120,000-130,000mt as there was a step-up in the December quarter. With the additional initiatives to increase recovery and access better grade, the company believes that they can add more than 40,000mt in the fourth quarter. The aim is to double the capacity in the medium term by implementing Gamsberg Phase 2. Gamsberg currently produces 400,000 tonnes of ore per month.
