Mining company Vale increased its sales of iron ore and pellets in the Brazilian market in January-May 2021, compared to the same period in 2020, reported the National Union of the Iron and Basic Metals Extraction Industry of Brazil (Sinferbase).

 

In the first five months of this year, Vale sold 12.42mn mt of both products in the domestic market, compared to 9.42mn mt in January-May last year, Sinferbase informed in a report on Jun 24.

 

In May, the company’s iron ore and pellet sales reached 2.86mn mt compared to 1.33mn mt in the same month last year.

 

Vale’s iron ore sales reached 6.96mn mt in the Brazilian market in the first five months of the year, compared to the 6.09mn mt in January-May 2020. Its monthly sales reached 1.08mn mt in May from 952,000mt in the same month last year.

 

Pellet sales to local consumers also increased in the January-May period, to 5.45mn mt from 3.33mn mt last year. Last month, Vale received orders for 1.77mn mt of pellets against 382,000mt in May 2020.
