Usiminas produced 1.11mn mt of rolled steel products between Jan 1 and Mar 20, 19pc above the daily average in Q1 2020.
The steelmaker noted in a statement on Mar 23 that its production levels during this period were 13pc higher than the daily average in the preceding quarter and higher by 39pc than the daily average in 2020.
Steel sales tallied at 1.08mn mt in the same period in Q1 2021. The daily average in Q1 2021 was 18pc higher compared to Q1 2020, 10pc higher against the preceding quarter’s daily average, and 34pc higher compared to the daily average in 2020.
Usiminas’ domestic market sales were 1mn mt as exports were 75,000mn mt in the Q1 2021 period under review. The daily average domestic sales rose 28pc compared to the same year-ago quarter, climbed 7pc against Q4 2021, and was 40pc higher than the daily average in 2020. Exports represented 7pc of total volume and were sold primarily to domestic customers with production abroad.
The steelmaker’s slab production rose by 2pc in daily average terms to 680,000mt in the same Jan-Mar period compared to Q1 2020. The daily average slab production in Q1 2021 was 4pc higher against Q4 2020 and 14pc higher against the full year 2020 average.
