Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

US zinc scrap prices remained mostly flat with changes of about a penny in galvanizers and diecast scrap as the market struggled with weak demand.

The weekly Davis Index for zinc galvanizers bottom dross was flat at 76¢/lb delivered while zinc galvanizers top dross decreased by 1¢ to 72¢/lb on Thursday. The index for new zinc diecast increased by a penny to 72¢/lb delivered and special high-grade zinc premiums remained unchanged from Feb 20 at 8.5¢/lb.

Concerns over the spread of Covid-19 in countries outside China are holding back businesses from making new offers or bids as demand remains weak and inventories pile up.

The three-month official LME zinc contract continued to move down and closed at $2,020/mt on Thursday, down by $95 from $2,115/mt on Feb 20.
