Steel shipments from US mills rose by 7.8pc to 37.94mn nt (34.42mn mt) in the first five months of the year when compared to 35.19mn nt in the same period last year, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) data.

 

Shipments also increased by 46.2pc to 7.99mn nt in May 2021 versus 5.46mn nt shipped in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, shipments rose by 1.8pc from the 7.84mn nt shipped in April. 

 

Cold-rolled sheets were up 3pc, hot-rolled sheets increased 1pc, and hot-dipped galvanized sheets rose 1pc in the first five months of 2021 compared to the same timeframe in the previous year, AISI indicated.
