Steel shipments from US mills increased by 14.8pc to 54.25mn nt (49.2mn mt) in the first seven months of 2021, compared to 47.23mn nt in the same period last year, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Shipments also rose by 37.2pc to 8.28mn nt in July 2021 compared to 6.04mn nt shipped in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, shipments ticked up by 3.1pc in July from the 8.03mn nt shipped in June.
Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip was up 23pc, cold rolled sheet was up 17pc, and hot rolled sheet was up 9pc in the first seven months of 2021 in comparison with the same timeframe in the previous year, AISI indicated.
