Steel shipments from US mills increased by 11.5pc to 45.97mn nt (41.7mn mt) in the first six months of the year when compared to 41.22mn nt in the same period last year, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
Shipments also rose by 33.3pc to 8.03mn nt in June 2021 compared to 6.02mn nt shipped in the same month last year. On a monthly basis, shipments inched up by 0.6pc from the 8mn nt shipped in May.
Hot-dipped galvanized sheet was up 19pc, cold-rolled sheet increased 14pc, and hot-rolled sheet climbed 6pc in the first six months of 2021 in comparison with the same timeframe in the previous year, AISI noted.
