US scrap export of stainless steel and alloy steel fell by 58pc in September to 72,768mt from 174,179mt in the same month of 2019, a US Census Bureau trade data report noted.
The largest outlet for American stainless scrap in September was India at 10,870mt, up from 10,131mt in the prior year period. This was followed by export to Taiwan, which was more than halved to 4,148mt in September, compared to 9,080mt in September 2019. The US’ stainless steel exports to Canada were 3,603mt in September this year, up from 2,037mt in September last year, while exports to Pakistan fell to 1,186mt from 5,583mt in during the same month last year.
Alternatively, import of stainless steel and alloy steel rose by 19pc to 66,584mt in September of this year from 56,058mt in September 2019. The highest stainless steel imports into the US in September were from Canada at 9,693mt, compared with 10,459mt in the same month last year. Imports from Mexico declined to 6,509mt compared to 7,069mt in the same month under comparison.
