US stainless steel and alloy steel scrap export declined by 45pc to 1mn mt in 2020 from 1.81mn mt in 2019, according to the US Census Bureau data.

 

Stainless steel and alloy steel scrap export in December 2020 dropped by 33pc to 72,805mt from 107,866mt in the same month in 2019. US Scrap export in November 2020 declined by 32pc to 85,794mt from 65,171mt in the same month of the previous year. 

 

Alternatively, total US scrap import of stainless steel and alloy steel in 2020 rose by 1pc to 752,840mt compared to 744,986mt in 2019.

 

Stainless steel and alloy steel scrap imports surged by 46pc to 86,469mt in December last year from 59,058mt in December 2019 and were up slightly from 85,599mt in the month prior. US Import of scrap stainless steel and alloy steel in November 2020 rose by 78pc from 48,022mt in November 2019, US Census Bureau reported. 

 

The highest stainless steel scrap export from the US in December was to India at 12,047mt, up from 10,432mt in the same month in 2019, followed by shipments to Taiwan which dropped to 3,636mt from 11,919mt during the same period. 

 

The US’ stainless steel export to Canada in December 2020 fell to 2,277mt, from 42,574mt in December 2019, while exports to Pakistan dropped to 1,283mt from 4,167mt in the same timeframe. 

 

The highest stainless steel import into the US in December 2020 was from Canada at 10,172mt up from 9,248mt in the same month in 2019, though imports from Mexico dropped to 6,301mt from 7,072mt in the same period.
