Prices of secondary aluminum smelter scrap delivered US remained flat or decreased on Wednesday as more secondary smelters suspended operations and automotive producers extended their shutdowns to contain COVID-19.


The weekly Davis Index for 2000/7000 solids dropped to 37.5¢/lb delivered US on Wednesday, from 38.2¢/lb delivered on March 25. The index for old sheet increased by around 0.5¢ to 35.8¢/lb delivered US and moved up by 0.4¢/lb to 36.2¢/lb delivered US for old cast.


The Davis Index for secondary MLC decreased by 1.3¢/lb to 38.7¢/lb delivered US. The indexes also decreased for tweak, twitch, and zorba, with tweak decreasing by 1.7¢/lb to 35¢/lb delivered, twitch dropping by 1.7¢/lb to 36¢/lb delivered and zorba declining by 1.5¢/lb to 33.5¢/lb delivered.


The official three-month LME aluminum contract closed at $1,498/mt on Wednesday, down by $44/mt from $1,542/mt on March 25.
