The US primary aluminum industry produced 372,515mt from Jan-May, down 25pc from 468,068mt in the same period, according to the Aluminum Association.
In May alone, the US’ primary aluminum industry’s output stood at 75,895mt, fallen by 22pc from 96,498mt in the previous year. In Q1 2021, production fell 24.5pc to 223,724mt over 278,629mt in the same quarter last year.
As for the seasonally adjusted annual rate, the US is expected to produce around 900,450mt of primary aluminum for the full year 2021, compared with 1.12mn mt of the light metal last year.
