US scrap exports of stainless steel and alloy steel together increased by 2pc in July 2021 to 73,348mt from 71,880mt in July 2020, according to the US Census Bureau trade data report.
The total US scrap imports of stainless steel and alloy steel in July this year increased by 48pc to 82,710mt compared to 56,067mt on an annual basis.
The highest stainless steel and alloy steel scrap exports in July from the US were to Mexico at 20,220mt, up from 14,665mt in the same month in 2020. Canada was the second-largest importer, increasing shipments to 17,975mt in July, compared to 14,000mt in July last year.
US’ stainless steel and alloy steel exports to India in July 2021 rose to 14,228mt, from 12,286mt in the same month last year. Its exports to Malaysia however, decreased to 7,424mt in July from 10,087mt annually. The country’s exports of stainless steel and alloy steel to Pakistan rose in July to 3,751mt from 1,244mt in the same month in 2020.
US’ shipments to Taiwan saw a significant drop to 3,360mt in July 2021 compared to 12,792mt in July last year and its exports to Thailand inched up to 2,454mt in July this year from 1,607mt annually.
US’ highest scrap imports of stainless steel and alloy steel together in July was from Canada at 55,144mt compared to 32,159mt in July last year. Imports from Mexico also increased in July this year to 25,965mt from 22,137mt in July last year.
