US scrap export of stainless steel and alloy steel declined by 45pc in February 2021 to 60,217mt from 110,208mt in the same month last year, according to the US Census Bureau.
Total import of stainless steel scrap and alloy steel in February rose by 43pc to 79,401mt compared to 55,419mt on an annual basis.
Mexico was the largest importer of stainless steel and alloy steel scrap export from the US in February at 20,514mt, though shipments to the country were down from 55,582mt in the same month in 2020. Exports to Canada, on the other hand, increased to 12,374mt in February, compared to 9,009mt last year.
US’ stainless steel and alloy steel export to India in the second month of the year fell to 11,035mt, from 18,225mt in February last year. Its exports to Malaysia rose slightly to 6,382mt in February from 6,014mt on an annual basis. The country’s export of stainless steel and alloy steel to Taiwan and Pakistan dropped significantly in February to 2,027mt and 1,079mt, respectively, compared to 10,280mt and 5,319mt correspondingly in February last year.
US’ highest scrap import of stainless steel and alloy steel together in February was from Canada at 54,301mt compared to 40,276mt in February last year. Imports from Mexico also increased in February this year to 22,261mt from 14,280mt in February last year.
