Indian state of Uttar Pradesh (UP) plans to allow the sale of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) in aluminium cans. UP will be the first state in India to make such decision. The state cabinet’s approved the state excise policy for 2020-2021 which allows sale of IMFL in aluminium cans.
This change in packaging material will help the state curb adulteration of alcohol. Also, the cost of aluminium cans is cheaper than glass bottles and the alcohol makers can cut their losses caused by bottle breakages. UP cabinet gave its nod to new state excise policy on Jan 21, 2019.
On an average, 16mn bottles of IMFL are sold every month in UP, according to state excise data.
