Ukraine’s pig iron exports increased 12pc in the first four months of the year amid strong demand, according to the country’s customs data. 

 

The country’s pig iron exports grew to 960,163mt in January-April 2020 from the same period in 2019, In April 2020, the country exported 304,926mt of pig iron, rising 33pc from the same month last year. 

 

More than half of the material (58pc) was shipped to the US, while other important outlets importing pig iron from the CIS region country included China (21pc) and Turkey (7pc). 

 

According to Ukrmetprom, pig iron production in the country totaled 6.486mn mt in the first four months of the year, a decline from 7.045mn mt produced in the same period in 2019. The decrease is attributed to measures against COVID-19’s spread in Ukrainian mills.

 

The country continued to rank tenth among the world’s 40 largest pig iron producers, according to worldsteel. The top-five pig iron producers in the world through the first four months of this year were China (277.987mn mt), India (30.975mn mt), Japan (23.325mn mt), Russia (16.970mn mt), and South Korea (14.514mn mt).
