Ukraine’s cumulative auto production in 2020 stood at 4,952 units, down by 31.8pc as compared to 7,266 units produced in 2019, according to preliminary data released by the Ukrainian Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Association (Ukrautoprom).

 

The country’s passenger car production in 2020 declined by 32.8pc to 4,202 units from 6,254 units in the prior year, while the production of commercial vehicles (CVs) fell by 62.5pc to 51 units as compared to 136 units produced in 2019.

 

Bus production in 2020 stood at 699 units, down by 20.2pc as compared to 876 units in the preceding year.

 

December output

Ukraine’s total auto production in December 2020 stood at 523 units, down by 6.3pc as compared to 558 units in 2019.

 

Passenger car production grew by 3.2pc to 446 units in December from 432 units in the previous year but fell by 18.2pc as compared to 545 units in Nov 2020.

 

In December, production of CVs and buses stood at 6 units and 71 units, respectively, declining by 70pc and 33pc from the preceding year and by 33.3pc and 15.5pc from November.

 

The global auto industry was impacted in 2020 due to the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic disrupted the supply of auto parts and automakers were forced to halt production to curb the spread of the virus, especially between April and June.

 

The spread of the new strain of COVID-19 across Europe has made nations close their borders and re-impose lockdowns, making recovery difficult.
