Britain’s HM Revenue & Customs office (HMRC) republished the country’s steel safeguard tariff-rate quota (TRQ) allocations for 2021 (originally published on Sep 30) to eliminate ambiguity following the agreement of new trade deals over the past week.

 

According to the UK HMRC, the TRQs will still be applicable on the trade of some steel products between Turkey and the UK from Jan 1 up to when the current safeguard review concludes on June 30, 2021.

 

Preferential trade agreements (PTAs), like those recently signed between the UK and EU/Turkey, do not supplant pre-existing non-preferential trade agreements, which include safeguards, anti-dumping duties, and countervailing duties, given that they are not optional. 

 

The UK can import the following steel products up to the stated quantities outlined below:
