Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Cars manufactured in the UK stood at 106,243 cars in November, down 1.4pc from the same month in the previous year. Production for domestic market fell by 10.4pc, while the output for exports registered an uptick of 0.3pc to 90,597 units, according to data published by Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

 

In the Jan-Nov period, production decline by 31pc or about 380,809 units to 849,246 units. Production for the UK market dipped by 34pc in the 11 months,  while that for exports fell by 30pc compared to the year prior. 

 

In November, many carmakers opted for a precautionary factory shutdowns amid  the possibility of ‘no deal’ Brexit, stated SMMT. Also, a second national lockdown in England and sluggish economic environment dampened demand. Production for export sales to the EU, Asia and the US was marginally up by 0.3pc. Eight out of 10 cars were produced for exports, signifying the importance of export markets to UK car manufacturers, noted SMMT.
