Russian car manufacturer UAZ has signed an agreement with Ethiopia’s Bazra Motors to produce cars jointly at the latter’s site in Kombolcha this year, according to media reports.
The companies plan to roll out around 3000 cars annually by 2023 and ship out at least 64 cars in the first batch by August this year. UAZ and Bazra will focus on production, developing sales, and maintenance of the plant.
UAZ, an SUV and LCV manufacturer, has been planning to expand its production outside of the domestic Russian market and has taken this agreement as an opportunity for expansion abroad. Since its establishment, the company has produced close to 4.6 million vehicles and about 14 million engines.
