India’s TVS Motor announced on Tuesday that the outbreak of Covid-19 (coronavirus) has affected the supply of certain components used in the production of its BS-VI vehicles, as a result of which February two-wheeler production may drop 10pc.

China is a major exporter of global automotive parts and with the supply chain broken due to the lockdown in several cities, Indian motor companies are now affected.

Hero MotoCorp also said that February’s production will be impacted by a 10pc drop because of the coronavirus impact.

In January, TVS produced a total of 222,000 two- wheelers and Hero MotoCorp produced 500,000 units. A 10pc fall in Feb would translate to 77,000 units, for both combined.

TVS Motors, however, does not have to stop production as it says only Tier II suppliers have been impacted. TVS Motors has completely transitioned to BS-VI in January, India’s new emission standard in effect from April 2020.
