Turkish steelmaker Izmir Demir Celik Sanayi (IDC) plans to double its melting shop capacity, the company announced on June 22.

In a filing with the Turkish Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), IDC indicated it would increase its capacity from 1.4mn mt of crude steel per year at present to 2.8mn mt in order to strengthen its position in the market.

The company stated that the capacity growth would help IDC increase its share in Turkey’s total steel production from 3.5pc to 7pc. The timelines related to the expansion project will be announced later after technical studies and necessary research, the company noted.

IDC produces square billets, round plain and deformed weldable reinforcing steel bars, various sections, profiles and angles.
