Billet imports into Turkey more than doubled to 1.71mn mt in January-May 2021, according to SteelData.
CIS countries supplied 73pc of steel semis, with Russia’s shipments to Turkey rising 2.6 times to 924,000mt during the period under review and Ukraine’s increasing by 35pc to 320,000mt.
Turkey’s billet imports from Algeria, Qatar, and Oman tallied at 118,000mt, 97,000mt, and 92,000mt, respectively, in the first five months of 2021.
In May 2021, Turkey imported 347,000mt of steel billet versus 121,000mt in the same month a year ago, according to SteelData. Supply of semis from Russia, Ukraine, and Algeria totaled 246,500mt, 26,000mt, and 49,000mt, respectively.
