Turkey’s aluminum imports soared 87pc while copper scrap shipments climbed 41pc in H1 2021 according to the country’s Customs data. 

 

The country’s scrap imports of both metals stood at 145,383mt and 31,545mt in the first half of the year compared to 77,610mt and 22,421mt respectively during the same period in 2020.

 

Aluminum scrap 

Turkey imported 27,506mt of aluminum scrap in June up 1.6 times from 10,293mt in the same month last year and 9pc up from 25,291mt in the previous month. Germany and Libya were the leading exporters with cargo volumes of 2,772mt and 2,310mt respectively.

 

Copper scrap 

Copper scrap imports to Turkey rose 30pc to 6,059mt in June compared to the previous year but climbed by half from 4,014mt in May.

Libya and Iran were the top two exporters at 1,319mt and 1,087mt each.
