Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Tata Steel Mining Limited (TSML) is doubling its ferrochrome manufacturing from 450,000mt to 900,000mt annually. The chromite ore mined from the three chromite mines placed under lease in 2020 will make ferrochrome to manufacture stainless steel.

TSML—formerly known as TS Alloys—acquired a 50-year lease on the three chromite mines of Sukinada, Saruabil, and Kamarda in 2020. These mines are now operational with a cumulative annual capacity of over 1.5mn mt. The company will become the largest chrome producer in India with these assets.

In December 2020, TSML signed a 4-year conversion agreement with Navbharat Ventures Limited to produce up to 70,000mt of high carbon ferrochrome annually.
