Auto manufacturer Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has halted production operations at Bidadi plant for an indefinite period starting Tuesday following a workers’ strike.
The strike was called following suspension of a worker on account of indiscipline and misconduct. The workers’ union alleged that their treasurer was suspended on ‘made-up’ charges after he took up workers’ grievances with the management, according to media reports.
TKM is Japan’s Toyota Motor Corp’s unit which has two plants in Bidadi with an installed capacity production of 310,000 units a year. The strike will disrupt production at the plant at a time when auto sales are recovering in India. In October, TKM sold 12,373 units, up 4pc from the previous year.
