Toyota produced a total of 7.90mn units globally in 2020, down 16.6pc from the previous year. Production in Japan slipped 14.4pc to 2.92mn units in 2020 from the preceding year. With the industry-wide shutdown of factories and showrooms in 2020, sales in 2020 were hurt compared to prior year despite demand recovering towards the end of 2020.
For full year 2020, sales slipped to 8.69mn units, down 10.5pc from 2019. Sales in Japan for mini vehicles is down 6.6pc to 1.50mn units and others is down 6.4pc to 1.47mn units.
December numbers
Global sales stood at 915,774 units in December, up 10pc from the previous year, marking December as the third consecutive month of increase. Sales in Japan for mini vehicles rose 11pc in December to 124,417 units. Total production globally in December rose to 14.4pc to 755,581 units. Production for Japan rose 6.3pc to 252,698 units.
Toyota’s group sales totalled to 9.53mn units including Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors in 2020 which landed Toyota as the top selling manufacturer in the world surpassing Volkswagen that sold 9.31mn units in 2020.
