Peru Chinalco is going to increase output at its Toromocho copper mine by 21pc this year.

 

To reach its goal, copper concentrate capacity will rise from 140,640mt.to 170,000mt a day, according to the National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (Senace).

 

However, according to an environment report presented to Senace, increasing production will reduce the mine’s life by 24 years to the year 2042, 

 

The company is investing about $1.3bn to develop the copper project.

 

The mining industry is one of the most important economic activities in Peru, representing about 9pc of its GDP and 60pc of the country’s exports. Copper and Gold are the most important metals exported by value.
