Thailand’s semi-finished steel import fell by 56pc in May to 147,200mt from the prior-year period, but increased by 26pc from the prior month, as per Davis Index analysis.
In the Jan-May 2020 period, semi-finished steel imports fell by 15pc to 1.367mn mt from the prior-year period.
The country’s ferrous scrap imports dropped by 30pc in May to 63,456mt, from May 2019 and by 53pc from the preceding month.
However, in Jan-May 2020, ferrous scrap imports into Thailand increased by 65pc to 590,000mt from the prior-year period.
Thailand produced 4mn mt crude steel. Steel mills in Thailand mostly use scrap over iron ore.
