US electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla’s global sales in Q1 2021 more than doubled to 184,800 units, compared with 88,400 units in Q1 2020. 

 

The company noted that production also increased to 180,338 units in the first quarter of 2021 from 102,672 units in the same period of 2020. It said that the Model Y is performing well in China and Tesla is speedily ramping up production to meet the demand for this mid-size SUV. 

 

Recently, Elon Musk, chief executive officer at Tesla, said that his plans to expand production of the Semi (commercial trucks) has been hindered by the semiconductor shortage.
