Taiwan’s non-ferrous imports increased by 6pc for aluminum scrap and 1.4pc for copper scrap in the first seven months of the year, according to the country’s Customs data. 


Aluminum scrap imports stood at 62,873mt from January to July this year compared to 59,539mt in the same period of 2020, while copper scrap cargoes to the country increased to 68,225mt from 67,256mt.


Aluminum scrap 

In July, the country imported 9,261mt of aluminum scrap, a 5pc increase from 8,838mt in July  2020. The United States was the largest exporter of aluminum scrap to Taiwan, despite a 49pc decline to 1,899mt in July from 3,728mt in the same month last year. 


Copper scrap

Taiwan imported 8,860mt of copper scrap in July, down by 14pc from 10,333mt in the same month of the year prior. The United States was the leading exporter here as well, even though shipments dropped 20pc to 1,730mt in July from 2,162mt in the previous year.
