Vedanta has appointed Sunil Duggal to replace Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan, as the company’s chief executive officer (CEO).
Duggal, who took over as the group’s interim CEO in March, previously led Vedanta’s subsidiary Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL) in the same role. Vedanta noted in a press release on August 14 that Arun Misra has succeeded Duggal as CEO of HZL.
Duggal has been associated with Vedanta since 2010, in leadership roles at HZL and was Vedanta’s chief operating officer until FY 2014. Previously, he also served as the president of Ambuja Cement.
Misra has previously served as the vice president of raw material at Tata Steel India’s Jamshedpur plant and as managing director of the company’s SEZ division in Bhubhaneshwar.
Vedanta indicated that in his new leadership position, Duggal will play an important role in the company’s effort to reduce imports of raw material by increasing domestic production in keeping with India’s core strategy to become a self-sufficient economy.
