Automaker Stellantis announces complete suspension of Fiat and Jeep models production on Tuesday and Feb 22 and 23 at its Melfi plant in Italy amid short supply of semiconductors. The plant that produces Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade and Compass was closed on Monday after a supplier notified of last-minute inability to supply electronic devices due to chip shortage.
Stellantis had halted production at Melfi through last week, while its Turin Mirafiori plant was closed for two days last week. The company said it is adjusting production schedules on a daily basis due to the evolving pandemic situation, globally, according to a statement quoted by local media.
Earlier, Stellantis has placed over 7,000 employees at Melfi plant on state-funded flexible furlough schemes until the end of March, according to media reports citing labour unions.
