Spanish steelmaker Sidenor has invested €90mn ($109.56mn) in upgrades to increase the production capacity of its Basauri rolling mill.

The company indicated in a statement on Jan 21 that the investment was part of a larger commitment of €131mn towards technological upgrades across the steelmaker’s facilities, of which €41mn was invested in 2017.

In the latest round of updates, Sidenor has built a new storage area for semi-products and a line for bar straightening, control, and wrapping. It has also added two new thermal treatment furnaces and a larger metallurgy lab at the Basauri rolling mill. Through these upgrades, the rolling mill has now increased its production capacity to 500,000mt per year and extended its range for bar production.
