The general seasonally adjusted Industrial Production Index (IPI) in Spain was 14pc lower in June compared to the same month last year.
June’s IPI fared better than May which encountered a 24.7 decline against the same month last year, and April, which was the lowest in 2020 when industrial production declined by 34.1pc compared to April 2019. For perspective, the IPI changes during 2019 ranged between positive 1.8pc to negative 2.7pc in monthly terms against the same month in 2018. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in steep drops from March through June.
The country’s metallurgy index, which included the manufacture of iron, steel, and ferroalloys declined by 23.2pc in June compared to the same month in 2019. The manufacturing of metal products index, excluding machinery and equipment, fell by 12.4 in June against the same month last year while the manufacture of motor vehicles index dropped by 16.8pc during the same period under comparison.
The IPI for capital goods decreased by 17.9pc in June compared to the same month last year while energy output fell by 13.1pc. and The durable consumer goods IPI also declined by 16pc in June compared with June 2019.
