Australian metals and mining company South32 has extended the power supply contract for its South African smelter, Hillside for 10 years.
The company stated on Jul 23 that national energy solutions specialist Eskom will now provide electricity to the 720,000mt per year smelter until 2031.
South 32 also noted that Eskom will continue to be allowed to disrupt supply according to national electricity management rules to reduce load-shedding.
