South Africa’s domestic car sales declined by 17.6pc to 35,779 units in April this year compared to 43,428 units in March, according to The Automotive Business Council (Naamsa). 

 

The new passenger car market’s domestic sales saw a 13.9pc fall to 22,911 cars in April 2021 from 26,599 units in March this year. Sales of new light commercial vehicles dropped by 24.3pc to 10,879 vehicles in April compared to 14,364 vehicles in the prior-month period. 

 

The country’s April 2021 vehicle exports dropped by 32.2pc to 26,522 units compared to 39,141 units in March. 

 

In the first four months of 2021, South Africa’s domestic sales rose by 28.3pc from the corresponding period in 2020 while its exports rose by 48.3pc from the same four-month period last year.
