According to data released by the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of South Africa (NAAMSA), the country’s auto sales in June were up by 20.2pc to 38,030 units as compared to last year. Auto exports jumped by 50pc to 28,384 units in the month. A rise in local auto sales seen in May this year took a slight downturn in the proceeding month, while exports fell by 20pc.
Jan-June sales
Local auto sales were up by 33.7pc with 145,829 units and exports were up by 45pc to 108,173 units in the first six months of the year as compared to the prior-year period.
Segment-wise sales
In June, passenger car vehicles and light commercial vehicles saw an increase in demand within the country with sales rising by 28pc to 24,482 units and 9.6pc to 11,208 units, respectively.
Sales of medium and heavy commercial vehicles increased by 19pc and 15pc, respectively, in June, within the country. But a lack of demand for extra-heavy commercial vehicles continued, with sales falling by 9pc.
