Oman’s Sohar Aluminium produced 396,929mt of hot metal aluminum in 2020, up 1.64pc from 390,516mt in 2019.

According to media reports, the company said that it was a record production year for it, despite the constraints caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Sohar worked with a 35pc cut in its capital expenditure in order to save on controllable costs. Of the total produce, 37pc was sold domestically to downstream producers, while the rest was exported, reports indicated.

Sohar Aluminum is a joint venture owned by OQ (Omani Sultanate run–40pc), Taqa (Abu Dhabi National Energy–40pc), and Rio Tinto Alcan (20pc). The plant at the Sohar port in Oman has a nameplate capacity of 390,000mt of hot metal per year.
