Indian automaker SML Isuzu has extended the temporary production suspension at its Asron-based plant in Punjab’s Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar district until June 2 amid supply disruptions faced by vendors in the wake of the pandemic situation.

Some of SML Isuzu’s vendors are challenged by lockdowns across India, which has impacted the company’s supply chain.

Earlier, the production at the plant was temporarily suspended between May 13-18. The state of Punjab in northern India is under a lockdown, which was last Thursday extended until June 10 due to high COVID-19 infections and fatalities.

In the southern city of Chennai, major automakers have shut plants until May 31 amid worker unrest on safety concerns. Hyundai Motors, Renault-Nissan, Ford and bike maker Royal Enfield have shut plants to ensure the safety of employees.
