Iran-based Shadegan Steel Complex’s sponge iron production in the first nine months (Mar 20-Dec 21, 2020) of the Iranian calendar stood at 564,181mt, up by 15pc from 473,991mt in the prior-year period, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro).
The company states output rose despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and sanctions imposed by the United States.
The company can produce 700,000mt of sponge iron and 1mn mt of steel per annum. It aims to produce 4mn mt of steel in the future and is working on the infrastructure and financing for the ramp-up, as per media reports.
Shadegan Steel Complex is one of the semi-government producers located in the south of Khuzestan.
