Iran-based Sefid Dasht Steel Company’s sponge iron production in the first seven months of the Iranian calendar (March 21-Oct 22, 2020) increased by 13pc to 470,100mt from 415,000mt in the prior-year period, according to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (Imidro).
In the seventh month (Sep 23-Oct 22, 2020), the company’s sponge iron output stood at 70,652mt.
The company informed that the construction of the Sefid Dasht Steel Complex is 85pc done and installation of all equipment and the plant will be complete by the end of this year.
The progress of the project was not hampered even with the US sanctions affecting the import of foreign equipment and the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The steel plant, located in Iran’s Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, will have an annual capacity of 1mn mt and is projected to be one of the leading upcoming steel projects in the country.
