Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Iron ore mines under the Steel Authority of India’s (Sail) raw material division (RMD) produced 22.47mn mt of iron ore in 2019-20, up by 4.7pc from the prior year, Davis Index can reveal. 

RMD’s dispatches for the year rose by 7pc over the prior year to 22.37pc. 

The unit’s iron ore lump production grew by 1.7pc to 7.50mn mt during the year, the highest so far since its inception.

Individually, RMD’s Bolani and Taldih mines clocked the highest ever annual output of 5.926mn mt and 984,000mt, respectively, with dispatch at 5.689mn mt and 974,000mt, respectively.

During the year, mines under the Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) produced and dispatched 6.79mn mt and 7.06mn mt of iron ore, respectively.

Sail’s RMD operates eight iron ore mines and two flux mines, spread over Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, supplying iron ore, limestones and dolomite to Sail steel mills in the east of the country.
