Steel Authority of India Limited (Sail) owned blast furnace 8 called Mahamaya at its Bhilai Steel plant produced 8,506 mt of hot metal on Jan 25, surpassing its previous high of 8,451 mt on Jan 22.
The company commenced production with Mahamaya in Feb 2018 under Sail’s modernization and expansion program to ramp up production capacity of Bhilai Steel Plant with an added output of 2.8mn mt from the prior output of 5mn mt.
With this new blast furnace, company targets to increase annual sales volume by 10pc/.
The blast furnace is designed with latest features like cast-house and stock house dedusting system, top pressure recovery turbine, pulverised coal injection, modern heat transmission system reducing the consumption of energy and controlling emissions with the help of pollution control equipment including waste heat recovery system.
Sail’s total hot metal output of first and second quarter in the fiscal year 2020 amounted to 8.5mn mt.
