Steel Authority of India Limited (Sail) witnessed a 14pc rise in steel production in October 2020, from the same month in the prior year. The company’s production and sales have improved for four successive months since June. Sales of steel products rose by 21pc from October, in the prior year.

 

In the month, crude steel and the saleable steel production was at 1.446mn mt and 1.347mn mt, respectively. Domestic and export sales were at 1.341mn mt against 1.113mn mt in October 2019. The company states they have achieved the best October performance supported by its subsidiary plants.

 

Sail chairman Anil Kumar Chaudhary states it has made necessary changes as per the domestic and export demand. The company is also ramping up production continuously and hopes to raise it over pre-COVID levels.

 

Sail’s Bhilai steel plant in Chhattisgarh, Central India, achieved the highest monthly production record of 219,332mt crude steel in October, up 17pc from the prior month. Hot strip mill at SAIL’s Bokaro Steel Plant also achieved a monthly record HRC output by hitting 334,000mt after an upgrade. The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), Odisha, produced 345,010mt of crude steel in October, its highest monthly output.
