South African mining production declined by 6.3pc in October on an annual basis, due to lower iron ore volumes, according to the latest data from the country’s statistics department.

 

According to the report, iron ore production fell by 26.5pc in October from a year ago, while copper output declined by 5.2pc. However, nickel volumes rose by 2.9pc in the same period.

 

In October, iron ore sales from the country declined to ZAR5.9bn ($399mn), compared with ZAR9.6bn in September. Copper sales also fell to ZAR185mn over ZAR199n in the same monthly comparison. Despite higher production, nickel sales fell to ZAR246.5mn in October against ZAR751mn in the prior month.
