Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Russia’s car sales in June reported at 157,808 units, which includes passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, according to data released by AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee (AEB AMC).

Sales jumped 28.7pc in June from a year ago and 9pc higher than June 2019, exceeding the pre-pandemic level. In H1 2021, sales have totaled 870,749 units, up 36.9pc from the corresponding period of 2020.

Russian auto market has improved better-than-expected, stated Thomas Staertzel, Chairman of AEB AMC, adding that Russia’s COVID-19 situation is worsening. The association is, however, hopeful they could avoid a complete lockdown.

AEB highlighted the difficulties faced by the auto sector, including the tight supply of semiconductors and the rise in metal prices. But the association believes the industry can prevent a drop in 2021 sales. AEB maintains a positive outlook and has updated the annual sales forecast to 1.75mn passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, implying a 9.8pc jump in sales compared to a year ago. The previous estimate was a 2.1pc increase from 2020.
