Rusal has acquired the business and assets of Aluminium Rheinfelden, a German producer and provider of aluminum alloys to the automotive industry.
With the acquisition, Rusal plans to expand its presence as an automotive supplier and use Rheinfelden’s research and development platform to build on its low carbon aluminum technologies. Rusal plans to rebuild Rheinfelden’s production capacity back to 30,000mt per year as part of the long-term plan.
According to a media statement by the Russian aluminum giant, Rheinfelden had previously filed for insolvency but the company has over 70 patents to its name and a track record of technical expertise in the field of alloy production, paired with connections in the automotive world.
