Steel Authority of India Limited’s (Sail) Rourkela Steel Plant in the state of Odisha produced 3.5mn mt of hot metal in FY21, up by 5.7pc over the prior year, confirmed a company official. In March 2021, the Raw Material Handling Plant registered the hot metal production volume of 400,666mt. It also dispatched 10.5mn mt of base mix to register the best annual performance since the company’s inception.
The mills of the unit clocked the best March record for saleable steel at 342,230mt. Overall the unit produced 3.207mn mt of saleable steel in FY21.
Its blast furnace-5 ‘Durga’ and the Steel Melting Shops contributed to the production figures by producing 245,184mt and 360,606mt of crude steel in March 21, compared to the prior year.
The plant’s New Plate Mill rolled out 85,700mt of plates in March.
